The Star Trek Fotonovel series was an early form of media novelization that used photographic stills from the original series rather than illustrated artwork or prose. Each volume adapted a single episode, presenting the story through photographs with text captions, making the books collectible artifacts of late-1970s fandom as well as functional story adaptations.
Theodore Sturgeon wrote the original episode “Amok Time” (1967), which was adapted into one of the fotonovels. Other episodes in the series include The Trouble with Tribbles, City on the Edge of Forever, and All Our Yesterdays, each adapted from their original screenwriters’ work into the fotonovel format.
