Stacey Brutger’s standalone novels are two early works in her catalog that show the paranormal romance style she would develop across her later series. BloodSworn, published in 2013, follows Trina Weyebridge, a witch whose powers were bound when she was banished from her coven a decade earlier. She works as a hematologist in the human world until vampires kidnap her sister. Desperate, Trina makes a deal with Merrick, a lion shifter and pack alpha: she will become his concubine in exchange for his protection. Merrick’s pack is dying from a mysterious disease, and Trina’s rare blood magic may hold the cure.
Coveted, published in 2014, takes a different angle. Shayla is a seeker who has been stalked for her abilities. When she takes a job in Scotland to escape, she stumbles upon Aiden, a werewolf pack alpha imprisoned in a thousand-year-old dungeon. Aiden discovers that someone is harvesting blood from his wolves to create a dangerous drug, and the two must work together to stop it. Both novels are self-contained stories that can be read independently of Brutger’s series work.
