Rainbow Rowell launched her She-Hulk run in January 2022 with artist Roge Antonio. The series picks up with Jennifer Walters, She-Hulk, in an unusual position: she has lost access to her big green self and is trying to reconnect with the Hulk side of her identity while also rebuilding a law career that has gone sideways. It is, in Rowell’s hands, a book as much about a woman getting her life together as it is about superheroics.
The run spans two connected series, She-Hulk (2022) and Sensational She-Hulk (2023), totaling around twenty issues collected into six volumes. Rowell worked with several artists across the run, including Luca Maresca, Andres Genolet, and Joe Quinones. The story threads Jennifer’s legal work, her friendships, and a romantic subplot through the superhero action, which suits Rowell’s strengths as a writer of relationships and character dynamics.
The collected volumes came out through 2022 to 2024: Jen, Again; Jen of Hearts; Girl Can’t Help It; Jen-Sational; All In; and the Sensational She-Hulk collection. For readers who came to Rowell through her YA novels, her Marvel work demonstrates that her voice translates well to serialized visual storytelling, particularly when the subject is a character with as much personality as Jennifer Walters.
