The She Can series launched Melinda Leigh’s writing career and established her as a major voice in romantic suspense. Each book follows a different woman who finds herself in danger, often from a powerful or manipulative man, and must fight to survive. She Can Run, the debut novel, tells the story of a young widow who discovers her congressman husband has deadly secrets, and it earned a nomination for Best First Novel from the International Thriller Writers.
The series runs seven books, with each installment featuring its own self-contained plot and cast. The heroines range from a horse farm owner to a mother protecting her family, but they all share a stubborn refusal to be victims. Leigh pairs each woman with a strong male lead, usually in law enforcement, and builds the tension through both the criminal investigation and the developing relationship. He Can Fall, the sixth book, switches the formula by putting the male character in the title role, adding some variety to the lineup.
