The Shadwell Rafferty / Sherlock Holmes series is a nine-book mystery series that ran from 1996 to 2022. It starts with Sherlock Holmes and the Red Demon and follows with Sherlock Holmes and the Ice Palace Murders (1998), Sherlock Holmes and the Rune Stone Mystery (1999), and Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Alliance (2001). The fifth book, The Disappearance of Sherlock Holmes (2002), closed out the series’ first phase.
After a nine-year gap, the series returned with The Magic Bullet in 2011, followed by Strongwood (2014) and Sherlock Holmes and the Eisendorf Enigma (2017). The final entry, Rafferty’s Last Case (2022), brought the series to a close after more than 25 years. Reading in publication order is the way to go, since the relationship between Holmes and Rafferty develops across the books.
