Sergey and Marina Dyachenko’s standalone novels showcase the range of their fantasy writing. The Scar (1996) is set in a secondary world and follows Egert Soll, a vain swordsman who is cursed after a duel, losing his courage entirely. The novel tracks his slow transformation as he tries to live with and eventually overcome the curse.
Daughter from the Dark (2006) takes a different approach, set in modern-day Moscow where a musician encounters a strange girl who may not be human. The book combines urban fantasy with a story about unexpected parenthood. Both novels have been translated into English by Julia Meitov Hersey and published by Harper Voyager.
