Garry Douglas Kilworth’s Sergeant Jack Crossman series is his longest and best-known work of historical fiction. Set during the Crimean War, the eight novels follow Crossman as he carries out dangerous missions behind enemy lines. The series begins with The Devil’s Own (1998) and The Valley of Death (1998), then continues through Soldiers in the Mist, The Winter Soldiers, Attack on the Redan, Brothers of the Blade, Rogue Officer, and Kiwi Wars.
Kilworth served in the British Army, and his military experience gives the Crossman books an authentic feel. The series covers the major battles and campaigns of the Crimean War while focusing on the small-unit actions and espionage that Crossman is involved in. The books will appeal to readers of Bernard Cornwell and other historical military fiction.
