The Sea of Trolls trilogy follows Jack, a young Saxon boy in the eighth century who is captured by Vikings and taken on a journey across the Norse world. “The Sea of Trolls” (2004) begins the adventure as Jack must complete a quest for the troll queen Frith to save his sister’s life. “The Land of the Silver Apples” (2007) and “The Islands of the Blessed” (2009) continue Jack’s story as he encounters more creatures and challenges from Norse and Celtic mythology.
Farmer drew on her research into Viking culture, Saxon history, and Norse mythology to create a richly detailed world. The series balances adventure with humor, and Jack’s interactions with berserkers, trolls, and Norse gods give the books their distinctive flavor. The trilogy is well suited for readers who enjoy historical fantasy and mythology-based stories.
