The Scandalous Brides series is set in Regency London and centers on four women who pool their resources to open The Tantalus Club, a gentleman’s gaming establishment. Each of these women has been burned by a man in some way, and running the club gives them financial independence and a measure of control over their own lives. Starting with the prequel novella The Wicked One, the series follows each woman as she falls for someone who challenges everything she thought she knew about love and trust.
Suzanne Enoch brings her trademark witty dialogue and well-researched Regency settings to this series, which ran from 2011 to 2013. The books work best when read in order since the friendships between the four heroines develop across the series. A Beginner’s Guide to Rakes kicks off the main story, and The Handbook to Handling His Lordship wraps things up. Readers who enjoy smart heroines who refuse to play by society’s rules will find this series especially satisfying.
