Sandra Dallas’s standalone novels span over three decades of historical fiction set primarily in the American West. Her stories take place in small towns, mining communities, and pioneer settlements, often during times of war, economic hardship, or social upheaval. Quilting is a recurring element in many of the books, both as a practical skill and as a symbol of the bonds between women.
Her best-known novels include The Persian Pickle Club, about a quilting group in 1930s Kansas that gets drawn into a murder mystery, and Prayers for Sale, set in a Depression-era Colorado mining town. Tallgrass explores a Japanese internment camp in rural Colorado during World War II, while True Sisters follows a group of Mormon women on the handcart trek to Utah.
Each book stands on its own with a different cast of characters and setting. Publication order is listed here for readers who want to work through the full collection, but there is no required reading order.
