Salman Rushdie’s collected works include three titles spread across three decades. East, West (1994) was the first, followed by Languages of Truth: Essays 2003-2020 in 2021, which gathers essay writing from a seventeen-year span. The Eleventh Hour (2025) is the most recent addition.
These collections can be read independently of one another. Readers already familiar with Rushdie’s novels may find the essay collection in particular useful as a companion to his fiction, since it covers a long stretch of his writing life.
