The Sacred Sins duology is one of Roberts’ early forays into romantic suspense. Sacred Sins introduces psychiatrist Dr. Tess Court, who is called in to help a Washington, D.C. detective track a serial killer with a religious fixation. The sequel, Brazen Virtue, brings back familiar characters in a new case.
Both books were published in the late 1980s and show Roberts developing the suspense-romance blend she would refine across her career. The D.C. setting and police procedural elements give these stories a grittier tone than much of her other work from the same period.
