The Sacred Sins series is one of Nora Roberts’ forays into darker romantic suspense. The first book pairs a psychiatrist with a D.C. homicide detective as they hunt a serial killer driven by religious delusions. Brazen Virtue follows the same couple into a second case, this time involving Tess’s own sister. Both books were published in the late 1980s.
These novels lean harder into crime and suspense than most of Roberts’ catalog. The Washington, D.C. setting and police procedural elements give the books a tense, urban feel, and the central relationship between Tess and Ben carries real weight across both stories.
