Rune Seeker began on Royal Road and followed the path Clarke had already mapped with Mark of the Fool — serial publication first, then a move to Amazon and Audible. The protagonist, Hiral, is born on a flying island where every person channels sun magic through tattoos on their body. He alone cannot. When he finally gets a chance to enter the dungeon system below the islands, the story becomes a litRPG adventure: Hiral gains classes, abilities, and achievements as he fights through increasingly dangerous floors.
The series runs seven books by 2026 and is co-written with C.J. Thompson, giving it a slightly different texture from Clarke’s solo work. The litRPG elements are more prominent here than in Mark of the Fool, making it a good entry point for readers who like explicit game-style progression with levels, stats, and dungeon floors.
