Niall Ferguson’s Rothschild books tell the story of the most famous banking dynasty in European history. The work was originally published in two volumes: Money’s Prophets (covering 1798 to 1848) and The World’s Banker (covering 1849 to 1999). In the UK, the two volumes were also released as a single edition under the title The World’s Banker: The History of the House of Rothschild.
Drawing on over ten thousand previously unavailable letters and documents from the Rothschild family archives, Ferguson traced how five brothers from the Frankfurt ghetto built a financial network that helped fund governments and shape European politics for more than a century. Business Week named the first volume one of the best books of 1998. The entries here represent the combined edition and the individual volumes.
