Rosamond Lehmann’s non-fiction writing is largely personal. A Letter to a Sister (1932) is an early epistolary work. The Swan in the Evening (1967) is her best-known non-fiction book, a memoir dealing with the death of her daughter Sally and Lehmann’s turn toward spiritualism. Letters from Our Daughters (1971) and My Dear Alexias (1979) continue the personal and spiritual themes.
A Man Seen Afar (1965) was co-written with Wellesley Tudor Pole and also deals with spiritual subjects. These works reveal a side of Lehmann quite different from her fiction, though the emotional intensity is the same.
