Joseph Flynn’s Ron Ketchum Mystery series follows the detective through Nailed (2010), Defiled (2012), and Impaled (2015).
The single-word titles hint at the grim nature of each case. Nailed introduces Ketchum and sets the tone for the series. Defiled raises the stakes two years later, and Impaled brings the trilogy to a close. Flynn spaces the books out over five years, giving each entry room to stand on its own while building on what came before.
Flynn is also known for his Jim McGill political thriller series, and the Ron Ketchum books show a different side of his crime writing. Where the McGill novels deal with political power in Washington, the Ketchum mysteries are more focused on straightforward detective work and violent crime.
