Roger Zelazny’s Alien Speedway is a shared-universe science fiction series set on a massive alien space station where competitors from across the galaxy race at extreme speeds. Roger Zelazny conceived the setting and oversaw the project, while different authors wrote the individual novels. Jeffrey A. Carver contributed Clypsis, the first book, published in 1987.
The series is a product of the late-1980s trend of established SF authors creating universes for newer writers to explore. The Alien Speedway books combine the excitement of interstellar racing with the politics and dangers of a diverse alien community. Clypsis and the subsequent entries follow racers and their crews as they deal with sabotage, rivalries, and the mysteries of the station itself. All four books were published within a tight window of 1987 to 1988.
