The Rocheworld series follows humanity’s first interstellar expedition, traveling by lightsail to Barnard’s Star. The original novel, published in 1984 (also known as Flight of the Dragonfly), describes the voyage and the discovery of Rocheworld, a pair of planets so close together that they share an atmosphere. The crew encounters alien life in the oceans that flow between the two worlds.
Sequels co-written with his wife and daughter continued the expedition: Return to Rocheworld (1993), Marooned on Eden (1993), Ocean Under the Ice (1994), and Rescued from Paradise (1995). The series maintained Forward’s trademark hard-science approach, with every spacecraft, orbit, and alien ecosystem built on real physics.
