Adrian Magson’s Riley Gavin and Frank Palmer series was his first major fiction work, launching in 2004. The books pair Riley, a young investigative journalist with sharp instincts, alongside Frank Palmer, a former British Royal Military Policeman who has moved into private investigation. Together they take on cases in and around London that tend to be more dangerous than either of them expected.
The series ran for six books through 2024, and it established the pattern Magson would follow in his later work: strong character dynamics, tight plotting, and a grounded sense of how crime and investigation actually work. Fans of British crime fiction with a focus on partnerships and procedural detail will find a lot to like here.
