The Richard Savage series by Tim Hodkinson is a 14th-century historical fiction trilogy. The protagonist, Richard Savage, is a Knight Templar who finds himself imprisoned as a heretic after the fall of the Templar order. He wins a reprieve by agreeing to spy for King Edward in Ireland during the Scottish invasion of 1315 AD.
Lions of the Grail (2011) opens the series and was followed by The Waste Land (2014). The Savage Forest (2015) is a prequel novella set in 1305 that explores Savage’s earlier life. The books draw on the historical backdrop of Edward Bruce’s invasion of Ireland and the political upheaval of early 14th-century Europe.
