Ribbons West is the sequel trilogy to Ribbons of Steel, again written by Judith Pella and Tracie Peterson. Published between 1999 and 2000, the three novels — Westward the Dream, Separate Roads, and Ties That Bind — move the story forward to the era of transcontinental railroad construction following the Civil War.
The series follows a new generation of characters whose lives are shaped by the massive engineering and political effort to connect the coasts by rail. Like its predecessor, Ribbons West combines family saga elements with historical detail about one of the defining projects of nineteenth-century America.
