Rebel of the Sands follows Amani Al-Hiza, a girl with a dead-eye aim who wants nothing more than to escape her dusty hometown in the desert nation of Miraji. When she meets a mysterious stranger named Jin, she gets pulled into a rebellion against the ruthless Sultan. The world is populated by djinn, shapeshifters, and other creatures drawn from Middle Eastern folklore, all set against a landscape that feels like the American frontier.
The trilogy moves quickly, with Traitor to the Throne expanding the political intrigue and Hero at the Fall bringing the rebellion to its conclusion. Hamilton also wrote Tales from Sand & Sea, a companion novella. The series includes translated editions in French and Russian. Readers who like action-heavy YA fantasy with a distinctive setting will find this series worth picking up.
