Rebecca Stead contributed two short stories to the Guys Read anthology series in 2013. Guys Read is a project created and edited by Jon Scieszka, the first National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, with the goal of encouraging boys to pick up books. Each volume collects short fiction from well-known children’s authors around a central theme.
Stead’s contributions, A Day In the Life and Plan B, appeared in separate Guys Read volumes and show her range as a short fiction writer. While she is primarily known for her novels, these stories gave her a chance to work in a more compact format while still writing for the middle-grade audience she knows best.
