Raymond Chandler’s screenwriting work includes two notable scripts. Double Indemnity (1944), co-written with director Billy Wilder, adapted James M. Cain’s novel into one of the most celebrated film noirs ever made. The Blue Dahlia was an original Chandler screenplay.
Chandler’s experience in Hollywood was famously difficult, with the author clashing with the studio system. Despite his unhappiness, his screenwork brought the same sharp dialogue and moral ambiguity that distinguished his novels to the screen.
