Ranger’s Apprentice: The Royal Ranger continues the franchise by shifting the focus to a new generation. The first book, The Royal Ranger (2013), introduces Maddie, the daughter of Princess Cassandra and the knight Horace, who becomes Will Treaty’s apprentice. Will is now an experienced Ranger, and much of the early book deals with his grief over a personal loss while he trains his headstrong new student.
The series ran for seven books through Ambush at Sorato (2024), with entries like The Red Fox Clan (2018) and Duel at Araluen (2018) pitting Maddie against political conspiracies and foreign threats. Later books, including The Missing Prince (2020) and Escape from Falaise (2021), send Maddie on rescue missions that test everything she has learned. Arazan Wolves (2022) and Ambush at Sorato (2024) bring the series to its conclusion. Readers who grew up with Will’s adventures will appreciate seeing the world of Araluen through fresh eyes, while new readers can start here if they want, though the original series provides important context.
