The Rai Rahotep series by Nick Drake consists of four historical mystery novels set in ancient Egypt. Rai Rahotep is a Seeker of Mysteries, essentially a detective, who investigates crimes among the royal court and the streets of Thebes. The first book, Nefertiti: The Book of the Dead, appeared in 2006 and drew praise for its detailed recreation of Egyptian daily life.
Drake built each novel around a real historical figure or event. Nefertiti and Tutankhamun both take their titles from the pharaohs who feature in the plots, while Egypt: The Book of Chaos expands the scope of the political turmoil of the era. The series rewards readers who enjoy mysteries grounded in real history.
