Rab Sinclair is an unusual Western hero. The son of a Scottish missionary, he grew up on the frontier and speaks with an accent that sets him apart from everyone around him. Despite his youth, he knows the land well enough to work as a guide, and that job puts him in the path of danger on a regular basis. The four books in the series follow him through a stretch of hard country and harder men between 2018 and 2019.
A Trail Too Far opens the series and sets the tone: Sinclair takes on a job that goes wrong, and violence follows. The Glorieta Grudge and A Vast and Desolate Land push him deeper into the frontier, with each book bringing new threats and new terrain. A Violent Outcome closes out the series. Peecher keeps Sinclair young and fallible, which makes the character feel real rather than like a typical invincible gunslinger.
