R.A. Lafferty’s story collections document one of the most unusual careers in science fiction. Nine Hundred Grandmothers (1970) was his first major collection and remains a touchstone. Strange Doings (1973) and Does Anyone Else Have Something Further to Add? (1974) followed in quick succession during his most productive period.
The Best of R.A. Lafferty (2019), edited by Jonathan Strahan, arrived decades after most of these collections went out of print. It brought renewed attention to Lafferty’s work and provides the most accessible entry point for new readers. Earlier collections like Ringing Changes (1979) and the smaller press editions from the 1980s are harder to find but contain stories not available elsewhere.
