R. Scott Bakker has two standalone novels outside of his series work. Neuropath came out in 2008, and Light, Time, and Gravity followed in 2011. Both are independent stories with no connection to each other, so they can be read in either order.
These standalones give readers a way to sample Bakker’s fiction without committing to a longer series. Neuropath is the earlier of the two and a reasonable starting point, but neither book requires the other.
