Savage Theories, published in Spanish in 2008 and in English translation in 2017, is set largely in Buenos Aires and circles around a group of philosophy students, guerrilla politics, and a spectacularly self-serious academic theory about violence. The novel skewers intellectual vanity without losing interest in the ideas themselves.
Dark Constellations moves into darker, more speculative territory, dealing with biology, surveillance, and the long reach of colonial science. Mona shifts to the world of international literary prizes and the rituals of the literary festival circuit, which Oloixarac treats as its own kind of absurd theater. The three novels share a sensibility but work independently of each other.
