The Poetry for Young People series presents classic poetry in illustrated editions designed for younger readers. Each volume focuses on a single poet or theme, with biographical introductions and annotations that explain unfamiliar words and references.
The series launched in the late 1970s and has grown to include volumes on dozens of poets. Lewis Carroll’s volume (2000) collects his most accessible verse, including selections from the Alice books. Other volumes cover poets ranging from Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman to Langston Hughes and William Blake.
