Pierre Lemaitre’s standalone novels demonstrate the breadth of his writing. Going to the Dogs (2014), Blood Wedding (2016), and Three Days and a Life (2017) are tightly plotted thrillers, each built around ordinary people pushed into extraordinary circumstances.
Inhuman Resources (2018) may be the most striking of the group. It follows an unemployed middle-aged man who is invited to participate in a simulated hostage scenario as part of a job interview, only for the situation to spiral out of control. The novel was adapted into a French TV series in 2020. These standalone works show Lemaitre’s talent for creating tension from everyday situations turned dangerous.
