Peter Turner’s standalone non-fiction works span several decades and subjects. The best known is Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool (1986), his memoir about his relationship with Golden Age Hollywood actress Gloria Grahame, who came to stay with his family in Liverpool when she was ill. The book was well received and eventually adapted into a major film more than thirty years after publication.
His other non-fiction includes photography-related titles and self-help material. These works sit alongside his much larger output of travel guides and film criticism, but the memoir remains the title most associated with his name outside the Lonely Planet brand.
