Peter Tremayne’s standalone novels represent the broadest range of his fiction writing, covering horror, adventure, thriller, and science fiction. Most date from the late 1970s through the early 1990s, the period before the Sister Fidelma series became his primary creative focus. Horror titles like Hound of Frankenstein, Zombie!, Swamp!, and Snowbeast! draw on classic monster-movie traditions, while novels like The Ants are Coming and The Morgow Rises! take a more creature-feature approach.
Beyond horror, Tremayne also tried his hand at thrillers and adventure stories. The Windsor Protocol is a political thriller, Kitchener’s Gold involves a historical treasure hunt, and The Return of Raffles revives E.W. Hornung’s famous gentleman-thief character. The Valkyrie Directive and Angelus! blend suspense with historical settings. These books are harder to find than the Fidelma novels, but they show the range of Tremayne’s interests during a productive stretch of genre writing. The most recent standalone, The Doomsday Decree (2017), appeared well after the Sister Fidelma series was established.
