Peter N. Walker’s anthologies are primarily collections of folk tales gathered from the regions of northern England he knew best. Published between 1990 and 1993, the four folk tale volumes cover the North York Moors, the Yorkshire Dales, York and the Wolds, and the Lake District. Each collection preserves local stories and legends from these areas.
These books show a different side of Walker’s writing, moving from crime fiction to cultural preservation. The folk tales connect to the same landscapes that appear in his Constable Nick novels, giving readers who love his Yorkshire settings another way to explore the history and traditions of the region. The Gathering Storm (2010) is a later addition to this strand of his work.
