The Beach House (2002) and Beach Road (2006) are standalone thrillers co-written by Peter De Jonge and James Patterson. Both were number-one New York Times bestsellers. The Beach House follows a young Columbia Law student named Jack Mullen who returns to his hometown in the Hamptons after his brother’s body washes ashore. The death is ruled an accident, but Jack suspects the wealthy summer residents are hiding something and begins his own investigation.
Beach Road is also set on Long Island, where a triple homicide at a Hamptons beach house leads to a racially charged trial. A local lawyer and an ex-basketball star team up to defend the accused, a young Black man the community has already convicted in its mind. Both books are fast-paced Patterson-style thrillers with De Jonge providing local detail and atmosphere from the world of New York’s wealthy beach communities.
