Susan Ee’s Penryn & the End of Days trilogy is set six weeks after angels descended from the sky and destroyed modern civilization. The first book, Angelfall, follows 17-year-old Penryn Young as she searches for her kidnapped little sister in the ruins of the San Francisco Bay Area. To find her, Penryn reluctantly teams up with Raffe, a warrior angel whose wings have been severed by his own kind. The unlikely partnership between a human survivor and an injured enemy gives the series its central tension.
Angelfall was originally self-published in 2011 and quickly gained a large readership. Time Magazine later named it one of the 100 Best Fantasy Books of All Time. The series continued with World After (2013) and End of Days (2015), both published by Amazon’s Skyscape imprint. Ee’s writing is fast-paced and direct, with a focus on survival, family loyalty, and the grudging trust that develops between Penryn and Raffe. The books have been translated into more than twenty languages.
