Each book is set in a different location, which gives the series a travelogue quality on top of its mystery elements. Arnold drew on her own extensive travels and academic background to create authentic settings and culturally informed plots. The series starts with Exit Actors, Dying in 1979 and concludes with The Midas Murders in 1995, giving fans a substantial run of mysteries to work through.
