Penny Junor’s non-fiction covers thirty-five years of writing about public figures, with a heavy emphasis on the British royal family. Her earliest books include biographies of Princess Diana (1983) and Margaret Thatcher (1984), followed by portraits of Richard Burton and a study of the Charles-Diana marriage. In the 1990s she turned to political biography with her book on Prime Minister John Major.
From the 2000s onward, Junor focused increasingly on the modern royal family. Prince William: The Man Who Will Be King (2012), Prince Harry: Brother, Soldier, Son (2014), and The Duchess (2017) each offer detailed portraits based on extensive access and interviews. The Firm (2014) looks at how the monarchy functions as an organization. Her most recent book, All The Queen’s Corgis (2018), takes a lighter approach, telling the story of the Queen’s famous dogs.
