E.V Seymour’s Paul Tallis series follows a former soldier recruited by MI5. The Last Exile (2008) introduces Tallis, and the series continues with The Mephisto Threat (2009), Land of Ghosts (2010), and Resolution to Kill (2012).
Tallis is a former firearms officer and ex-military man, and his skill set makes him useful to the intelligence services even though he is not a career spy. The Last Exile puts him on the trail of a serial killer targeting asylum seekers, and each subsequent book sends him into more dangerous international operations. The Mephisto Threat involves a chemical weapons plot, while Land of Ghosts takes the action to Afghanistan.
The four books should be read in order since Tallis’s personal life and professional standing change from one story to the next. Seymour later began a new series under the name Kim Stone, but the Paul Tallis books remain her most recognized spy fiction.
