Paul Mann’s standalone novels show the range of his interests outside of his established series. The Leek Club, published in 2012, returns to Mann’s roots in the coal mining communities of northeast England. Born in Morpeth and raised in Bedlington, Mann drew on the culture, dialect, and characters of his Northumberland upbringing. The book has been called graphic, gritty, and funny, particularly for readers familiar with the Geordie world it portrays.
The Burning Tide followed in 2013, and The Jackal Club came out in 2015. These later novels show Mann continuing to write across different settings and genres after completing his better-known series work. Together with the Colin Lynch thrillers, the George Sansi mysteries, and the Splatter Trilogy, the standalones round out a varied body of work from an author whose journalism career took him around the world before he turned to fiction full-time.
