The Papercuts series consists of eight mystery novellas by Colin Bateman, released as individual e-books beginning in 2015 and continuing through 2016. Each novella is a self-contained mystery, and the titles are cheeky riffs on famous books and films: The Return of the Native, The Eagle Has Crash Landed, The Next to Last of the Mohicans, and Dog Day Mid-Afternoon, among others.
The series gave Bateman a format to deliver quick, punchy crime stories with the same black humor that defines his longer novels. All eight novellas were eventually collected into a single print volume, also titled Papercuts. For readers already familiar with Bateman’s style, these shorter works offer concentrated doses of his wit. For newcomers, they make a good low-commitment entry point into his fiction.
