The Oxford Medieval Mysteries follow Nicholas Elyot, a bookseller in 14th-century Oxford. Each novel is titled after a different character’s “tale” in a nod to Chaucer: The Bookseller’s Tale, The Novice’s Tale, The Huntsman’s Tale, and so on. The six books were published between 2016 and 2018.
Elyot’s shop sits at the heart of Oxford’s medieval community, where scholars, merchants, and churchmen all cross paths. When murder disrupts the town, Elyot’s curiosity and connections make him the one best placed to find the killer. Swinfen fills the books with period detail about the book trade, university life, and the rhythms of a medieval town.
