The Orphans series takes a different structure from most V.C. Andrews books. The first four titles, all published in 1998, each focus on a different girl in a therapy group: Butterfly, Crystal, Brooke, and Raven tell their own stories of neglect, abuse, and foster care. The fifth book, Runaways, brings the four girls together as they escape and try to build something better.
The short, focused format makes these some of the quickest reads in the V.C. Andrews catalog. Each girl’s story is self-contained enough to read on its own, but Runaways works best after you know all four characters.
