The NUMA Files series was created by Clive Cussler with Paul Kemprecos as co-author, beginning with Serpent in 1999. The books follow Kurt Austin, head of the National Underwater and Marine Agency’s Special Assignments Team, as he and his team investigate maritime threats and ancient mysteries around the globe. Kemprecos created the Austin character and co-wrote eight novels in the series.
The series has continued with Graham Brown and other co-authors after Kemprecos’ run, growing to over twenty books. Each novel sends Austin and his team to a different part of the world, combining underwater action sequences with historical intrigue. Serpent made the New York Times bestseller list, and the series has remained a consistent bestseller, with one installment knocking The Da Vinci Code from the top spot.
