Noumenon begins with a simple premise: humanity sends a convoy of ships to investigate a star that may harbor something extraordinary. What unfolds is far more complicated. The series follows not one generation of crew but many, examining how a closed society changes over centuries of isolation, how missions drift from their original purpose, and what it means to be loyal to a goal you inherited rather than chose.
The second book, Noumenon Infinity, expands the scope considerably, while Noumenon Ultra brings the trilogy to a close with answers about the mysterious stellar object at the mission’s heart. Readers who enjoy generation-ship fiction or stories where the passage of time is itself a narrative force (Kim Stanley Robinson, Becky Chambers) will find a lot to like here. All three books were published between 2017 and 2020.
