Nicholas Meyer’s standalone novels span from Target Practice (1977) through Sherlock Holmes and the Real Thing (2025). Black Orchid (1978) and Confessions of a Homing Pigeon (1981) show Meyer working in original fiction rather than adaptation, while Target Practice was his first non-Holmes novel.
These books are overshadowed by his Holmes pastiches and Star Trek work, but they demonstrate his range as a writer. Sherlock Holmes and the Real Thing, his most recent publication, brings him back to the detective once more, this time outside the main pastiche series.
