Robert Goldsborough’s Nero Wolfe mysteries pick up where Rex Stout left off, keeping the same cast of characters and the same brownstone setting. Nero Wolfe is a brilliant, reclusive detective who refuses to leave his New York townhouse. His legman Archie Goodwin does the footwork and narrates the cases. Goldsborough started the continuation series in 1986 with Murder in E Minor and has kept it going through The White Mountain in 2025.
The first seven books were published between 1986 and 1993, then Goldsborough returned to the series in 2012 with Archie Meets Nero Wolfe, a prequel exploring how the two characters first met. The more recent novels have continued at a steady pace of roughly one per year. Each book features a self-contained mystery with the familiar dynamic between Wolfe, Archie, and the supporting cast.
