The Myrmidon Files puts a CIA spin on the adventure thriller formula that David Wood is known for. Co-written with Sean Ellis, the series follows Tam Broderick, who leads an elite CIA task force code-named Myrmidon. In Destiny, she goes up against a quasi-religious extremist group called the Dominion in a globe-spanning treasure hunt. Mystic pits her against a mysterious figure known as “the Immortal” who is plotting to destroy the global economy.
These books grew out of the Dane Maddock universe but stand on their own. The emphasis shifts from archaeology and treasure hunting toward espionage and geopolitical threats, though the historical mystery elements are still present. Readers who enjoy the Jack Reacher or Mitch Rapp style of thriller, but want more of the ancient-secrets angle, will find these two books hit that sweet spot.
